In our series featuring individual artists from our exhibition Morphogenesis at Pulchri Studio, we now explore the work of Nicole Hagesteijn.
In the exhibition Hagestijen presents her recently started ongoing project that aims to present mythologic female figures, transformed through the eyes of a female artist. Through the ages these women were presented in literature written by men. They were largely interpreted as femme fatales or monsters. This fact has been of great influence on our perspective on women in general.
"In times when #MeToo and femicide are everyday news I think it is important to fine-tune our cultural canon."
The four works from the series on display are titled: Pandora, Leda, Daphne and Medusa
